2018 Offshore World Championship Results

World Offshore Championships Update! We are pleased to announce the Reel Escape finished 13th out of 51 of the top Charter boats in all of Costa Rica. We hosted two teams from Brazil and teams from Trinidad and Australia. During this prestigious four day event there were 328 Sailfish, 23 Blue Marlin, 1 Black Marlin, 18 Dorado, 3 Wahoo and 3 Yellow Fin Tuna caught. All of the 240 Anglers were required to use circle hooks and ALL of the Billfish were released. This was the fifth consecutive year the Reel Escape has fished in this tournament described as the ‘Olympics of Sportfishing’ Torneio Marlin from Rio de Janeiro was the overall winner in this year’s event.  For more tournament information…

Marlin March 2018 Fishing Report MarlinGreetings from the beautiful, warm waters of Drake Bay, Costa Rica. To sum up the last 30 days, the Marlin are biting! We have caught and released on average a Marlin every other trip. Most are Blue Marlin with the occasional Black Marlin mixed in. This is an exhilarating fishing experience as these beautiful and powerful creatures “greyhound” across the water at incredible speeds. We are also experiencing a decent Sailfish bite but we are anticipating the numbers to increase dramatically in the next 30 days. Fortunately for our clients, the Marlin are mixed in with the Sailfish, meaning anglers are catching the Marlin on lighter tackle making the quality of the fight more intense…

February 2018 Fishing Report

Drake BayFebruary 2018 Drake Bay, Costa Rica Fishing Report Greetings from the beautiful, remote waters of Drake Bay, Cano Island and the Osa Peninsula. If you prefer water, wildlife and Rain Forest instead of condos and concrete Drake Bay is the place for you. The fishing in February was one of the best months we have ever had for quality, quantity and diversity of fish. We were thankful to be on the water virtually every day and in addition to the great fishing, our clients enjoyed seeing numerous Humpback whales with their babies and huge schools of playful dolphin.
