December/January Fishing Report: Mahi-Mahi

Marlin and Mahi-Mahi

We are thankful the fish in Drake Bay are not on holiday. Our Clients have enjoyed 15+ hook ups on nice Roosterfish in the last few weeks. We are not exactly sure why this is happening but we aren’t complaining. On another very positive note, we are catching some very nice Mahi-Mahi or Dorado or Dolphin depending on where you are from. We are also catching and releasing a ton of baby Mahi-Mahi’s on our sabiki rigs while we are fishing for bait. This is a great sign for the health of the population as Mahi-Mahi are a very fast growing fish. Sailfish are starting to arrive in our waters in better numbers, this will continue to dramatically improve for the next 3 months. Last year it was not uncommon to have 20+ Sailfish bite in one day on the Reel Escape. Yellow Fin and Big Eye Tuna are here year round. Catching these magnificent fish on top water plugs is an amazing experience. We look forward to seeing you in Drake Bay soon! Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any of your fishing questions.

Until next time, tight lines-
