October/November 2016 Fishing Report

October TunaOctober/November 2016 Fishing Report

October is typically a month with lots of wind and rain in Drake Bay, this year was certainly no exception. We use this time to take the Reel Escape & the Reel Time out of the water for the month to complete routine maintenance, scrub and paint  the hull and generally make sure the boats are in perfect condition for the high season. As we head out of October and into November the weather slowly begins to cooperate.

We have had several trips in the first week of the month and we are pleased to report that we are catching a ton of Big Eye Tuna! The best part is that our clients are only having to travel just 30 minutes from the comforts of their lodge in Drake to catch these beauties. The mates will have your tuna expertly filleted and packed in ice for your lodge or local restaurant to prepare. Even better we usually keep some wasabi and soy sauce on board for some Sushi – it doesn’t get more fresh than that.

Our clients have also been catching some nice sized Roosterfish, these beautiful and exotic species are year round residents of the waters around Drake Bay. At Fish Drake Bay we practice catch and release and use circle hooks when we “Rooster” fish so that future generations can enjoy catching this magnificent species as well. Also, we have been catching some nice snapper, which are perfect to cook whole on the grill wrapped in a banana leaf. We are pleased to announce that we will NOT be raising our rates for 2017 and as tourism continues to boom in Costa Rica, especially in our region we expect a very busy fishing calendar. I encourage you to reserve your dates on the Reel Escape or the Reel Time as early as possible.

Until next time, Tight Lines
