June/July 2017 Fishing Report-Featuring a Broom Tail Grouper

June/July 2017 Fishing Report

Grouper

Greetings from beautiful Drake Bay! As we progress through the green season we are experiencing the normal increase in rain and a little more ocean chop. As the currents and water temperatures in the Pacific are constantly changing, the ‘old’ weather patterns seem less predictable. Regardless of the time of year, our clients always seem to catch fish no matter the weather. We are fortunate enough to have an incredible fishery and reef system that surrounds CaƱo Island right in our backyard. While we certainly have our share of migratory fish, the great majority are year round residents. These year rounders include roosterfish, grouper, snapper, amberjack, tuna, pompano to name a few. Last week one lucky angler caught an enormous broom tail grouper that fed their entire lodge! This time of year is historically good for marlin as the water begins to cool down. The thrill of catching and releasing this king of Sportfishing should be on all anglers bucket list. For the next several months, our clients receive a ‘2 for 1’ tour special as the humpback whales are in our waters. There is nothing better than a great day of fishing topped off by watching a mother and baby whale playing next to the boat.

Until next time, tight lines
