Fishing Report
February/March 2017

Greetings from beautiful, warm and sunny Drake Bay, Costa Rica! As the temperature begins to heat up, so has the fishing. The story of 2017 so far has been TUNA! We have been regularly catching Big Eye, Yellow Fin and even the occasional Albacore Tuna less than 10 miles from the Bay. Tuna are not only fun to catch but the most delicious sushi right on the boat or seared tuna steaks prepared at your lodge or local restaurant. There is nothing like eating a fish that is only hours old.

For those anglers who are a bit more adventurous, we have been very successful in finding huge schools of big Tuna offshore. Experienced anglers can cast top water poppers, jigs and plugs to these beautiful fish. The Tuna offshore have been ranging from 40-200 lbs. With the recent addition of our custom fighting chair to the Reel Escape, fighting a giant tuna just got a lot easier for our clients. Of course, for our hardcore fisherman, we will gladly put on a stand up harness for a more ‘one on one’ battle. Much to our delight, there are still many Wahoo close to the Bay. We have recently discovered a few ‘hot’ lures that have been really productive. We look forward to seeing you in paradise soon!
